Custom Carrier Tutorial

Thursday 26th Aug 2010 @ 1:49 pm

If you’re reading this you’re on my old blog. Come one over to the new one @ Starrilicious.com

This is a really simple tutorial which has a really nice result. Though the tutorial is incomplete I have added it any way as the end result was really good. FIL2B was chuffed with his. We filled it with some ales we thought he might like and some of his faves.

You’re gonna need:

  • A drinks carrier

  • 2 or 3 sheets of craft paper and/or card

  • Scissors
  • Glue (I love those glue tape rollers, so convenient.)
  • Optional: Scoring tool and craft knife
  • Decorations of your choice

First you need to make sure your drinks carrier is clean and dry. I asked for mine in subway and the first one I got was all damp in one corner. It dried out fine though.

If you’re using the same size carrier as the one picture you can cut a 12 by 12″ paper in half. Otherwise measure from the handle area to the bottom of your carrier and cut accordingly. Also in that picture I’ve used double-sided tape. Don’t use that! It’s not strong enough.

AND learn from my mistake below. Measure before you cut… Doh! I cut all the way across when it should only have been half way. You need to cut your paper so the arms can pop out to make the shape of the carrier. You can skip this and just cut yours plain out.

I learnt from my mistake on the other side and used a pencil to poke through at each point and cut with scissors. I then glued this down. Glue down any overlapping parts inside for some extra stability

As you can see above this doesn’t quite cover the corners. That’s ok though as we’re going to put decorative corners on. (This also helped it become a bit more manly xD.)

Measure one corner of your carrier and cut 4 strips 3 cm wide and 1 cm longer in length. Score down the middle with a scoring tool.

Apply glue and affix at each corner folding the excess over the top. I don’t have a photo of the rest, my bad. Like I said time ran away with me.

If you’re going with lettering, arrange how it’s going to look now. I used the same card I used for the corners to cover the handle.

Cut a piece the width of your handle and fold it in half. Ensure it covers up all the remaining uncovered box and trim to size.

Place underneath you box and use as a template to mark out the hole for the handle. Cut out and then affix to the carrier. Use a corner chomper or round out your corners too.

Decorate, pop open and then take a picture so I can see your fabulous handy work!

Don’t forget to come back for the fantastic giveaway happening next week!

Love Starry xx

Slow down

Friday 15th Jan 2010 @ 9:26 pm

I’m aware there’s a problem with the websites loading times. I’m not sure what it is but I do plan to fix it ASAP by a move to my new domain. Even the construction page makes me stupidly excited. I’ve had a test and the new domain should be loading better. I think the database is clogged up on this side so it means backing up and moving over.

See you on the other side!

Happy New Year!

Sunday 3rd Jan 2010 @ 11:11 pm

Hi guys, happy new year to you and your families.

Lately I’ve lost my blogging mojo but maybe with the new year and all I will regain it. I’ve also been super exhausted lately. Siobhan comes back from maternity Monday, though I’m off all week and I feel a certain duty to make sure everything is up to date and in the same way she left it. I’m not looking forward to going back to my old role at all. Time for a new job me thinks. Oh to not have to work for a living!

Plenty of things have happened so I will catch you up briefly. Saran, Sean’s sister, had a beautiful baby boy on the 17th of December a full day after she was induced! Mother and baby are doing well!

Jack and I

Introducing Jack Patrick Milane

Sorry about the poor photograph, I didn’t take it obviously *cough* Sean *cough*, he wasn’t so happy to be photographed, but I was happy to be holding him.

The next day, a full 8 days late, Nelia Lubar entered the world! Pics are to come but she is absolutely adorable. We went round to the birthing center when she was just 1 day old and again this evening. Lisal, the new mommy, is a much better photographer than Sean so will let her photo’s do her daughter justice. She put on the hat I made for her and apparently it’s a big hit. It’s the go to hat as it fit’s so well so I’m so glad. It’s a newish pattern for a new baby hat that will stay on a wriggly babies head. Think a cross between a bonnet and beanie. I didn’t think to write down the pattern but I am going to do her another, babies grow so fast! Once I do I will share the pattern.

I’ll round off this brief post with cupcakes I made for Lisal and Lee’s New Years dinner today….

New year cuppies

1 new year cuppie

…because everyone loves cupcakes

Pssst I made those flags. Real easy, rub-offs, ribbon and double sided tape attached to lollypop sticks.

Let’s hope theres another post from me this year hehe.

Christmads Fair

Thursday 26th Nov 2009 @ 8:38 am

It’s starting to get so that I’m waking up in half light and coming home in the dark. That’s ok though, christmas is coming! Tomorrow marks one month to christmas. Are you ready? I had planned to do a whole lot of christmas crafting for family and friends. What I’ve actually done is sign up to participate in a local christmas fair… It’s on the 12th of December.

So… I’ve been being industrious and I’m making many decorations, planning how my stall will look, planning what cakes and cookies/biscuits I will make. It’s frightening and exciting all at the same time.

I tried photographing my decorations but I just can’t do them justice. I’d have another go but they are all wrapped ready to be sold now. I have to be organised you know.

I must be mad to agree to do it at such short notice but it is Christmads!
