Winter Blues

Monday 16th Nov 2009 @ 11:47 pm

I’m sure it’s not just me who feels a bit blue this time of year. Just after my birthday but not quite christmas time. Generally I eek out birthday celebrations a few weeks till I am starting to prepare for christmas. This year however, I prepared early thinking I may not have time if the baby come early (we will be back and forth to Grays).

All is not lost though! At work we’ve recent had a new shipment of XDA’s which come in rather spiffy magnetic lid boxes. As soon as I saw these boxes I knew there was an oppurtunity for crafting. I’ve taken home 9 already and currently have 2 decorated sets of boxes looking lovely on our cabinet. They are not quite finished but I will show you my progress soon. I also think they would make awesome gift boxes.

Blues abated!

NB.I wrote this yesterday but forgot to publish oops!

My Brer Rabbit

Wednesday 4th Nov 2009 @ 12:26 pm

Hey people!

I’m back! For like the third day this month, go me! *Waves at Adele faithful commentor XD*

Bronwen

I am making this. It’s Bronwen by Dawn Toussaint (Isn’t that an awesome name?). Only thing is I’m stuck. From the instructions I can not for the life of me figure out where to put her arms. I put them on and they just did not look right. I’ve also used cotton so my doll will be a lot stiffer once finished.

I will persevere and maybe update later!

Sock monkey where is my parcel??

Sunday 22nd Jun 2008 @ 11:42 am

That should be parcels plural. I have no idea. I ordered some things for my swap and they still haven’t come. I got an email yesterday and the lady say’s “Oh I forgot to send you parcel till today”, what kind of way is that to run a business. Not even a sorry, I’m hoping I will get the Monday so my package won’t be any later. Luckily my partners seem to be understanding. I hope they think it was worth the wait.

The other parcel is royal mails fault. They left me a “While you were out” card, even though I was home, so I arranged a redelivery online. This was on the 11th. 2 days later no parcel. Phone the sorting office, no answer. I rang and rang till I got the disconnected tone. I gave it a couple more days then arranged it again online. Was supposed to be delivered on Friday and still nothing. I seem to have such bad luck with post lately. I’m not sure who that parcel is from so if you sent me something lately and I haven’t blogged about it that is why.

On a lighter note, I’ve had a cold. I haven’t been taking my medication, bad Starry. I’m feeling ok but the plus side to feeling is icky is I get to laze around in bed and craft :). No knitting or crochet as I have a dodgy finger from too much crochet. The nail bed is sore, so I’m letting it rest (Sorry Monnibo it’s taking me forever!). I’ve been making sock monkeys! I had started one ages ago for a friends birthday but it was taking ages hand sewing it. My mini stitch couldn’t handle the sock material well. So it need ears and the limbs sewn on and I was all sewed out. Since I won’t be seeing Anthony any time soon I didn’t rush to finish it but I was feeling crafty yesterday. Too bunged up to listen to music and watch TV but needing something to do.  So I decided to finish it. I used a mish mash of different tutorials as I liked the ones at Sockmonkey.co.uk but not the mouths, the origional wasn’t cute enough and no one had exactly what I wanted. I didn’t get it exactly right on the first one so I decided to make another and it was how I wanted it after unpicking the limbs and repositioning them a few times lol. Only thing I didn’t like was the ears. I’d like them more round  cup handle shapes Now I wish I had more socks as I want to make a few more. They are so fun to make! No pictures just yet in case Anthony reads this xD. Besides it needs a few finishing touches to it’s costume.

I feel pretty good today but still gonna laze about and take it easy. A few films I want to watch. Bewitched being one. It’s probably going to be really goofy but I’m in a goofy feel good movie mood. Prolly try and fashion a different kind of sock monkey out of a princess sock for Leah. She keeps asking me to make her something and I couldn’t think what to make her. I’ll let you know my progress.

I’ll leave you with something amusing…

Me bouncing and knitting hehe. Gotta multi-task! I might add that wasn’t today hehe.

Happy crafting till next time!

Remember the trinity

Wednesday 26th Mar 2008 @ 1:00 pm

Remember all that trinity yarn I got here? Well I think I have found the perfect pattern for it here, The Hemlock Ring Blanket! It’s really pretty. I’m really loving lace knitting right now. Lucky for me before I chose a project for it I read the reviews on ravelry and found it doesn’t work to well for clothing garments. I hope however that it will work pretty well as a lap blanket for me when I’m at the PC (IE all the time ;))) and be nice and snuggly. I’m looking forward to getting started on that but I will need some DPNS of which I still only have one pair, a set of 3mm 14″ ones, too long to work. I don’t want to stretch it out on circulars before I even get started.

For some instant gratification last night I made a pair of Saartjes Bootees (PDF Pattern here). They are adorable but I can’t finish them as I can’t find my yarn needles. I really need a bigger craft box! I adapted the pattern, frankly when do I not, so they are mary jane style and although I made the smaller size but on larger size needles they are still on the small size. I promise you lot’s of photo’s later on in the week once I have caught up on my cleaning. There’s no clear space, seriously. What with school, work, crafts and wedding stuff, I just seem to be acquiring more and more stuff.

I was watching Judge Judy today and they had a man who was being sued over travel expenses a friend paid for his mail order bride. Being me I looked it up on google and found they have mail order husbands too. This is a random “ad” I came across.

Name: Daryl
My name is Daryl. I am 17, but will be turning 18 in September. I figure by the time we get to know each other I will be legal tender and we can marry. My parents are kicking me out after December and I’d like to meet a woman with a lot of money so we can have fun. I like women between 18-45, but would consider older if we do not have to touch a lot. Location: Wooster Falls, ILL, U.S.A.

I laughed so much I almost wet myself. What a catch! Wonder if he gets many mails… The rest are just as funny! Is this site for real? Take a look for yourself. We women got the short straw. All the men order pretty young things and if that’s our offering well… What I can’t believe is that they put those on their front page! If I was in the market for a husband I’d turn and run. I’m still giggling. Read the so called success story too haha.

That’s all from me!

Edit:

I found some adorable buttons as I was clearing up today and finished up the booties. They are so adorable and the light was good so I took a couple of photo’s!

My mom is so funny

Saturday 8th Dec 2007 @ 10:59 pm

Saturday night and sitting home doing nothing. Fun fun… I was supposed to be going out but the least said about that the better. So instead I started a mystery Amigurumi. I made up the pattern myself so prepare yourself for a bizarre FO ;)).

Then I happened to get talking to my mom on MSN. She’s net savvy don’tcha know ;). As she’s about to go she says to me “Do you want banana’s and nut’s in your Christmas stocking?”. Baffled I replied no banana’s or nut’s thanks. Bear in mind I’m allergic to nuts. “Oh” She says “I forgot about the nuts, what’s wrong with banana’s. I have to fill it up with something”. So I ask what’s wrong with satsuma, that’s what we normally get. “Ok” she goes “Don’t roll over on it in your sleep!”. She is so kooky. Speaking of banana’s, I remember one time, when I was about 12, she came running out the kitchen with a banana, drop rolled like James Bond and popped up behind the sofa shooting at us with it. We all just gaped at her open mouthed. Crazy woman. My sister, then aged 4, exclaimed “Someone’s been at the Vimto!” :)). For you Americans Vimto is a blackcurrant cordial that used to have adverts with rude rhymes and silly bits in.

Any who I’m still on a bit of a downer despite the amusement from my mother so I won’t blog much.

Have you finished all your Christmas crafting??
