Sophia Carry All Done

Sunday 13th Jul 2008 @ 9:54 pm

…besides the loose bottom.

Pattern: Sophia Carry All
The wallet is improvised.
Fabric: Orly
Time Taken: 4 days

I’m not happy with it really. I still love the bag and pattern but I made a mistake on the zip so it sticks and I don’t fancy ripping it all out again now. I used a water proof membrane instead of fusible fleece.

If I were to make this bag again I would make the straps a few inches longer so it could fit on my shoulder. I’d try harder to find the right zip and I’d also match the handles better. (One handle has a lot more white). Oh and I wouldn’t have bothered with the water proofing layer.  It was a good idea until it came to fitting the zip.

It’s going to be an everyday bag rather than a weekend bag. No way I could fit a weekends worth of stuff in there haha!

I’ve named it Sepia. What? You don’t name your bags? n___n

My First Proper Sewing Project

Tuesday 17th Jun 2008 @ 11:21 pm

I love it already even with all it’s imperfections *grins*.

I followed the tutorial here at Multicrafty’s blog. If she hadn’t favourited one of my flickr photo’s I may never have gained inspiration!

I originally wanted to make the roll in my book “The Complete Guide to Knitting and Crochet” which is why I bought the Frisian print faux fur. The one I made though was far more functional. For some reason I can find every other pattern from that books picture besides that one but oh well lol.

Stitchings a little wonky and I remembered to put in the ribbon too late (hence it being a little high). I like the colours though.

That’s all I got for today. I also made cupcakes for my friend, I’ll share the recipes once I perfect it.

Crafty Update

Can’t leave you without photo’s can i?!

My first project

Grrrr sticker marks!

I got the jeans model simply because for 5 pounds more you got the jeans attachments which they sell separately for 35!

My new sewing machine is here! Yay! I’m so excited and no one else cares…. Good thing I was home this morning as it wasn’t due till next week. My postman’s got into this weird habit of knocking on my window before ringing my doorbell. Scares the crap out of me!

I’ve been playing with it all morning. Trying to get used to the new controls. It’s a lot different from my other Toyota but it feels so spiffy in comparison to my mini sewing machine. I need to get a better selection of thread though.

I’ve been looking for some patterns to get going with but I can’t decide what I want to make yet…

Better get on with stuff now and stop messing about with it lol.

I can’t think of a title

Monday 12th May 2008 @ 10:26 am

I just wanted to blog today so here I am. Monday morning this is what I am doing. I’ve been up at 7:30 am everyday the last week. My body clock seems to be fixed that way. So I’m over tired because I’m only getting on average 6 hours sleep a night. I do try to take a nap or go to bed earlier but it just doesn’t work. Right now, I should do some work but I just can’t be bothered. So sue me. I usually try and keep my blog pretty upbeat but sadly life’s not always like that. You gotta take the rough with the smooth lol.

I’m always miserable around this time of year due to the increased allergies, blocked nose and sinus issues and the hot eye feeling that seems to pervade my every concious moment. I really wish I could enjoy the lovely weather without fear of dying! It’s really hit hard in the past week. There was me thinking I was gonna get off lightly this year.

Over the weekend I’ve been trying to write up the Mary Jane Patterns but I’m having to knit them as I go to check they make sense so it’s going so slowly. I want to get it right though as it will be my first pattern and I’d rather not have to amend it 100 times once it’s submitted! I’m committed to getting it done within the next year though :D.

Hmmm what else…

I have a tan! That’s not really news as I tan so easily I only have to be out 5 minutes, Great to get rid of that pasty grey look you get after a few months of no sun. I love the sun! I wonder if you still get hayfever if you move abroad? Must research this…

Oh and remember the good thing I was telling you about. Turn out it’s more complex than I first thought.

For those who wanted a paper globe tutorial, Heather Bailey @ HELLOmynameisHeather has one here (PDF). It would have been useful had I seen it before I made mine but oh well lol. I made mine using a slightly different technique (I’m glue-phobic in crafts, double sided sticky as much as poss!), it essentially shows you how to make the exact same thing. Bonus for me not having to write one haha. I really ? Heather Baileys site. I wish my husband, should I have one lol, was a photographer. Then he could take wonderful photos to put on my blog! I also wish he bought me £3000 sewing machines but I’d settle for the previous!

Also, I’ve decided I don’t like my new camera. I was a lot happier with my Canon camera :(. So I may just have to buy a new one. I think I will have to go into a store and try them out because this one had good reviews but I just don’t like it.

That’s all I have to say for now.
